» 11/10/2016 - RCI High Court hearing - The wait is nearly over!

We have just heard from David Greene at Edwin Coe LLP, who represented the RCI Action Group in the High Court case against RCI Europe in May 2016, that Justice Proudman is provisionally expected to hand down her judgment on Thursday 20 October.   We will of course deliver further news as it breaks.

After nearly two weeks of legal representations in London’s High Courts, the RCI Action Group hearing drew to a close on Monday 23 May 2016 and the Judge has now entered a period of deliberation, prior to handing down judgment.

» 17/05/2016 - Owners allege timeshare exchange group was ‘profit skimming’

British holidaymakers have brought the first High Court case against a timeshare exchange company, alleging they were victims of an operation that kept them in the dark and rented out their properties for the company’s profit and as staff incentives. Four people are seeking compensation from RCI Europe, which operates a worldwide timeshare exchange club. Afurther 483 timeshare owners are part of the legal case and the more than 9,000 members of a UK timeshare action group will be affected by the judgment.

Nearly 500 British holiday timeshare owners go to court today in an attempt to recover millions of pounds in alleged damages after claiming that the scheme was a scam.
A High Court judge in London will hear 487 members of a worldwide timeshare exchange club allege that the bosses of RCI Europe “skimmed off” the best properties by selling them, despite having said that they would make them available for exchange.

Nearly 500 Britons who own holiday homes are going to court today to try to recover millions of pounds in alleged damages in a dispute over the operation of a European timeshare scheme.
A High Court judge in London will hear members of a worldwide timeshare exchange club allege that the bosses of the operator RCI Europe "skimmed off" the best properties by selling them, despite having said that they would make them available for exchange.
According to the claim - which could ultimately affect up to 9,000 British clients of RCI - the timeshare participants were rarely, if ever, able to exchange their right to use one property for an alternative holiday home of the same value in a different location. The membership scheme involved properties around the world.

» 6/05/2016 - RCI timeshare clients sue for £2.4 million

Wyndham Worldwide’s RCI timeshare division is being sued for £2.4 million over claims that members of its exchange club have not been able to access properties.
The class action lawsuit has been filed at the High Court in London and litigation is due to begin on Monday.
Almost 500 members of the worldwide timeshare exchange club claim they have not been allowed to stay in other properties, despite there being a pool of 4,000 to choose from.
Some of the UK claimants say they only purchased their timeshare property to enter the exchange scheme and have found it “completely failed to live up to the glossy brochure promises”.

» 6/05/2016 - High Court to consider timeshare ‘skimming off’ class action claim

He High Court in London, UK, is to consider a class action lawsuit that alleges members of a worldwide timeshare exchange club suffered detriment over improper “skimming off” of premium timeshare properties.
The case, set for Monday 9 May, concerns premium timeshare properties from the exchange pool by the exchange club operator, RCI Europe, part of the US hotel group Wyndham Worldwide.
The claim is a class action lawsuit with a total of 487 claimants in the class represented by law firm Edwin Coe LLP and the forthcoming hearing is a test case of four members of the class. A further 9,000 members of a UK timeshare action group may potentially be affected by the judgment, says the law firm.

» 6/05/2016 - UK class action lawsuit commences next week against timeshare exchange operator RCI Europe

Law firm Edwin Coe LLP has announced it is representing 487 claimants in a class action lawsuit to be heard in the High Court in London next week, “Abbot & Others v RCI Europe”. The case, which is listed as a 10 day trial, concerns claims of detriment suffered by members of the RCI worldwide timeshare exchange club, part of the Wyndham Worldwide Corporation.

» 4/11/2013 - RCI has submitted a defence

The members of the RCI Action Group Committee met recently at the offices of the lawyers, Messrs. Edwin Coe LLP to review the Defence received from the lawyers representing RCI Europe.
RCI has admitted that timeshares lodged within the exchange scheme were rented out both to members of the scheme and to non-members.  However RCI claims that this was done to balance supply and demand so that as many members as possible could get their desired exchanges. read more

» 16/04/2013 - Committee recruits

There is a vacancy to join the Committee and we welcome a cross section of members but an additional member with a legal background, for example a retired barrister or judge would be of particular preference. The Committee is called to meet every quarter at the offices of Edwin Coe LLP in central London and you will be required to attend. read more

» 08/03/2013 - CFA (Conditional Fee Agreement)

We are pleased to announce that all RCI Action Group members have been contacted and sent information in respect of the signing of the CFA (Conditional Fee Agreement). Due to the overwhelming response, we have extended the date of return until Wednesday 13th March.

» 04/03/2013 - Committee

At the meeting of the RCI Action Group on 20 November 2012, the Association was formally constituted and its committee elected.
Full minutes of the meeting have been prepared but because they include confidential advice cannot be circulated.
The arrangements for after the event insurance and funding are being finalised.
In the absence of settlement it is intended that legal action be commenced.
